Last Friday our class went on an art excursion to the Mullumbimby Piece Gallery with the school's art teachers Jo and Mandy. We went on this field trip to explore the world of Found Object Artworks.

The journey began with a hot, sticky bus trip to Mullum. The Starfish occupied the back of the bus. On arrival in Mullum we dropped the Whales off and they walked to the Historical Museum and we continued to the Piece Gallery with Jo. We waited patiently outside for about five minutes.

Then Jo formed us into two lines and we proceeded into the gallery. The first artwork of interest that we saw was a tricycle that was old and rusty.
It had a skid mark behind it and a drawing of lots of different two and three wheeled bikes behind it. The artwork was called 'The Ride of Your Life', and Jo said it was about memories of childhood. On thinking about the artwork it brought back many memories for us from our own experiences with riding on bikes.

The next installation we saw that was interesting was a carpet made of brown and black leather waist belts and it had a chair made of belts sitting on the mat in the back left hand corner . This artwork was created by Chez Baker and we really aren't sure what this piece was all about but some of us loved it and some of us were very unsure of what to think. When we got closer we could see it was made of wishbones. The name of this artwork was 'Fortune'. We could not decide why the artist may have called it this.

When we arrived back at school we had a focus on making patterns by using our own found objects. We think that the excursion and the making of the artworks were both very interesting.
