Copyright Dates & Roman Numerals

Copyright dates often recorded in roman numerals in the credits of movies and TV shows. Some people believe these dates are recorded this way so the audience don't know how old the re-runs are.

You might be surprised to find out how old some of your favourite shows are. Take a guess at when you think the cartoons in the graphic above first appeared AND RECORD YOUR GUESS WITH PEN.

Remember that television was not widely
available until the MCMLs.

are you sure you've written your guess down?

The Flintstones - First went to air in MCMLX and continued being made until MCMLXVI

Monty Python and the Holy Grail - was released in MCMLXXV

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) - first appeared in MCMLXXXIV

Scooby Doo - The first episode, 'What a Night for a Knight' went to air in MCMLXIX and is available on Youtube.

The Simpsons - first appeared April XIX, MCMLXXXVII and has gone on to be the longest running TV series in history.

What is the name given to the process of trying to work out the roman numerals at the end of a movie? NB it is written on a graphic somewhere on this site :-)
