Phonics Strategy - Word Wheel

phonics teaching print out pic When 'y' says 'i'

'I was surprised by how much my students love to play with these innovative and interactive flashcard resources. Thanks Adrian'

How They Work: The students spin the word circle and new words appear as it rotates. I've included 6 word disks to cover - when 'y' says long 'i', all, ight, ay, & ing. It's a fantastic edition to your Word Wall.

Word Wheel Instructions

1. Print and laminate the resource then gently fold over the black square (as shown) and snip a hole through.

2. Carefully cut out the black square labelled 'cut me'.

3. Very carefully poke out the dot in the centre of the wheel with a needle. Make sure your finger is not behind the dot :) Then poke out the hole on the monster's yellow sign.

4. Insert a split pin through the yellow sign and through centre of the wheel and fold out the split pin. You may need to spin the wheel a few times to get it to spin easily.

5. Attach a piece of blu-tac as shown.

6. Firmly stick the 'final sound' to the wheel and you are ready to go.
